MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department has named a Virginia man as a suspect in the homicide of Keith Reed, Jr.
Anthony Robert Taglianetti II, 42, of Woodbridge, Va., is a suspect in the case and is believed to be back in Virginia after shooting Reed at his Clymer residence late Friday night. Reed, a Salamanca native and son of former city mayor Keith Reed, Sr., had served as superintendent of the Clymer Central School District since last year.
Authorities said during a press conference Thursday afternoon they consider Taglianetti to be armed and dangerous but believe the act wasn’t random.
“This individual wanted to do harm to Mr. Reed,” said Sheriff Joseph A. Gerace. “We believe it was isolated and oriented toward Mr. Reed.” He added the homicide does not appear to have anything to do with Reed’s role as a superintendent.
Reed’s body was found Monday about 150 yards from his home, which is in a remote area, Sheriff Gerace had stated earlier this week. Reed had not been seen since Friday, and police found his body following a missing person investigation.
His father, Reed Sr., served several terms as Salamanca mayor during the 1960s and mid-1970s and also operated Reed’s Newsroom for about 35 years before recently closing.
Calling hours for Reed continue Thursday and a funeral service is scheduled at the United Congregational Methodist Church Friday afternoon.
Anyone with information on Taglianetti is asked to call the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office at (716) 753-4232 or (716) 661-7231. Authorities also said anyone in Virginia with knowledge of the suspect is asked to call Prince William County authorities at (571) 238-0731.
Additional information on the investigation and Reed’s life will be in the Oct. 4 edition of The Salamanca Press.
