Salamanca named one of America’s Healthiest Schools

SALAMANCA — National children’s health organization Alliance for a Healthier Generation named the Salamanca City Central School District among its list of America’s Healthiest Schools.

Unveiled Wednesday, the 2025 list celebrates 1,120 schools nationwide for their commitment to advancing whole child health.

“Schools play a crucial role in positively shaping the health and well-being of our nation’s youth, and they deserve national recognition for their outstanding efforts,” said Kathy Higgins, CEO of Healthier Generation.

Supported by Del Monte Foods, Kaiser Permanente and Kohl’s Cares, Healthier Generation’s annual award program recognizes schools for implementing evidence-based policies and practices to support academic success and lifelong well-being.

Schools are recognized in nine health-related topic areas. Salamanca was awarded in the category of Improving Nutrition & Food Access.

“This recognition reinforces the Food Services Department’s hard work towards feeding our students healthy, nutritious and most importantly – delicious – meals throughout the year,” said Karen Magara, Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations.

Salamanca was one of only seven districts in New York state to be recognized among America’s Healthiest Schools. Others to be honored in Western New York include Westminster Community Charter School in Buffalo and Thomas A Edison Elementary School in Kenmore-Tonawanda.

“The dedication of school leaders, educators and staff to support the physical, emotional and academic needs of their students is nothing short of extraordinary,” Higgins added. “Their commitment is creating healthier futures for children and communities alike.”
