The Central Avenue/East State Street intersection will see
increased safety measures in the near future, but they will not
come in the form of a traffic signal.
Mayor Jeffrey Pond recently received a letter from
the New York State Department of Transportation explaining the
results of a traffic study it performed on the intersection. The
study was performed after the city sent two letters to the DOT
requesting a traffic light at the intersection, which was the site
of a fatal crash in June.
In the letter, the DOT explained the site does not
warrant the installation of a three-color traffic signal because it
does not meet the requirements outlined in the Manual on Uniform
Traffic Control Devices.
