ELLICOTTVILLE — Irma A. Hellwig Musall, of Ellicottville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, at the age of 93 at The Pines of Machias nursing home.

Born Aug. 26, 1933, in Gnojno, Kreis Lipno, West Prussia, Germany, she was the daughter of Ernst Emil and Lydia (Witt) Hellwig. On June 21, 1951, she came to the United States on the Homeland. On April 7, 1956, Irma married Charles A Musall, who predeceased her on May 8, 2010. They were married 51 years.

Irma was employed by Ellicottville Central School for 25 years. She worked in the cafeteria kitchen. In her early years, she worked in Ellicottville for Dr. Leyens, the Weller Hotel and the Bowling Pin Factory.

She enjoyed gardening, berry/fruit picking and going for walks. She especially liked spending time with her family, friends, children and grandchildren. She was an active member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, in Ellicottville, for many years.

Surviving is her daughter, Susan (Jeff) George of Springville; a son, Gerald (Cathy) Musall of Great Valley; 11 grandchildren, Ethan George, Noah (Kiersten) George, Simon George, Aaron (Jessica) Musall, Erica (Mike) Andera, Lee (Niradey) Musall, Kim Li (Justin) VanSickle, Cam Musall, Hailey Goode, Daneth Musall and Phalla (Sydney) Musall; a brother, Emil Hellwig; a sister, Olga (James) Cash; a sister-in-law, Dottie Hellwig; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as many great-nieces and -nephews.

Besides her husband, Irma was pre-deceased by brothers Adolf and Edward Hellwig; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Musall (Hall); a brother-in-law, Jim Musall; and sisters-in-law Shirley Hellwig, Marlene Hellwig, Opie Musall and Hilda Musall.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation to all those who cared for Irma during her long illness.

Relatives and friends called Wednesday (Oct. 7, 2026) and will call from 10-11 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 8, 2026), with funeral services to be held at 11 a.m., all at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ellicottville, with pastor Mark Swanson as officiant. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Ellicottville.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ellicottville, or to the Ellicottville/Great Valley Ambulance Service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 411 Rock City St., Little Valley.
