SALAMANCA — Derah A. Gibble, 82, of Salamanca, died Friday morning, June 26, 2026, at home following a short illness.
Born Dec. 4, 1943, in Danville, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Harlow and Minnie McPhee Waldeck. She was married July 14, 1973, in Salamanca, to Robert K. Gibble, who survives.
She had been employed as a beautician for more than 40 years and owned and operated the House of Beauty Hair Salon.
DiDi, along with her husband, were longtime foster parents for more than 17 years.
She was a member of the former St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Salamanca Marching Band, Salamanca Winter Guard, Zonta, Order of the Eastern Star Mitzvah Chapter, and the New York State Hairdressers Association.
She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the outdoors, horseback riding and camping.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Shannon (Bill) Smith, Salamanca, and Roberta Jusko-Gibble, Cuba; a son, David Frey, Salamanca; two granddaughters, Jenna Ball, Salamanca and Shaelyn (Adam Johnson) Smith, Fairfax, Virginia; five grandsons, Jarron Ball, Torri Ball, Kash Ball, all of Salamanca, Harlow Frey, Arkansas, and Brett Smith, Rockville, Maryland; a great-granddaughter, Fiorina Ball, Ohio; two great-grandsons, Kyani Ball and Mekuh Ball, both of Salamanca; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Janssen Ball, and a sister, Linda (Richard) Woessner.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Allegany Mountain Resort Chapel, with Deacon Michael Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
