Kellen’s Pressing Issue
Rock history
Another week down, another time to look back at what happened in rock history
Jan. 22, 1969 – The Beatles move their rehearsal setup from Twickenham Film Studios to Apple Studios in London to start recording their new album, then titled “Get Back.” Billy Preston was brought into the sessions, the only time a guest musician was co-credited on a Beatles record.
Jan. 24, 2016 – David Bowie goes to No.1 on both the U.K. and U.S. album charts with his twenty-fifth and final studio album, “Blackstar.” Bowie died two weeks earlier on Jan. 10, two days after the album’s release.
Jan. 27, 1973 – “Superstition,” the lead single from Stevie Wonder’s “Talking Book” album, becomes his second No.1 single in the U.S., 10 years after his first No.1 hit. Jeff Beck created the original drum beat while in the studio with Wonder.
Jan. 28, 1985 – Music’s biggest stars (collectively dubbed “USA for Africa”) assembled to record “We Are the World.” More than three-dozen artists took part in the epic recording session, among them Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Kenny Rogers, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon.
