Cattaraugus County IDA backs Wingate renovations
ELLICOTTVILLE — A village hotel will receive a tax break for a major renovation effort this year.
The Cattaraugus County Industrial Development Agency approved inducements for 1378 Group LLC to launch a $2.4 million renovation effort at the Wingate by Wyndham Ellicottville hotel, 11 Mill St.
Officials from 1378 Group, which owns the Wingate, sought $192,000 in sales tax exemptions for an overhaul of the 18-year-old hotel, according to filings with the IDA. Updates include renovating the lobby with a fireplace, coffee area, self-serve alcohol tap station, and an a la carte breakfast area; renovations of rooms including modernization and 13 suites with fireplaces; and outdoor work including a deck overlooking the creek, a heated mineral pool, infrared saunas and fire pits.
Along with the renovations, a new franchise will come into effect. The hotel currently operates under a franchise from Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, officials said in June, but that agreement is ending. A 10-year agreement with the Choice Hotels chain will go into effect later this year, with the hotel changing names to the Huntley House Hotel.
The hotel is expected to remain open during the work, which should be completed by December, according to 1378 Group officials at the IDA’s June meeting — just in time for the skiing season in the village.
The work is expected to support three full-time positions and 18 part-time positions — up from 10 part-time positions and three full-time posts currently.
