Salamanca students receive CRCF scholarships
SALAMANCA — Three Salamanca High School graduates were recently awarded scholarship funds through the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.
Jacob Herrick received the Ann Liederbach Memorial Scholarship, a $1,000 award. Established in memory of Ann Liederbach by her daughter, Marilee Patterer, the Ann Liederbach Memorial Scholarship is making its first award in 2025.
The fund will support annual scholarship awards for students from Salamanca High School who are intending to or are currently pursuing a degree in elementary education. Preference will be for a student already enrolled in a bachelor’s- or graduate-level college program, but graduating seniors of Salamanca High School are also eligible to apply. Second preference would be for a student pursuing a degree in secondary education.
Herrick also received the Nelson M. Beard Memorial Scholarship for $1,500.
Established to remember the beloved Salamanca educator, the Nelson M. Beard Memorial Scholarship is for a student from the Salamanca City Central School District who is planning to attend a two- or four-year college or trade/technical school (first preference). Second preference is for a student from any school in Cattaraugus County who is planning to attend a two- or four-year college or trade/technical school.
Herrick plans to study physical education at St. Bonaventure University.
Cory Holleran received the James and Valerie Brundage Scholarship for $1,000. Making its first award this year, the James and Valerie Brundage Scholarship was established by Jim’s wife, Valerie, with the assistance of their family as a way to continue his legacy of supporting the Salamanca City Central School District.
The scholarship is for a graduating senior of the Salamanca High School planning to attend a four-year institution. Applicants should be hard-working, demonstrate academic excellence (a minimum GPA of 90%), be involved in community service and extracurricular activities and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be for students pursuing a degree in engineering (first preference) or other STEM-related fields of study (second preference).
Holleran plans to study biology at Allegheny College.
Zachary Trietley received the Two Joes Scholarship, a $500 award. This fund supports an annual scholarship in the name of community-minded businessmen Joe Sgro and Joe DeRose for a Cattaraugus County student interested in pursuing a degree in technology, marketing, communication, business or a related field.
Trietley plans to attend Allegheny College to study business.
