Winners named in Salamanca flower contest
SALAMANCA — Winners of the city’s 5th annual flower contest have been chosen.
In the flower barrels category, Hairmaxx beauty salon at 115 Main St. was awarded first place. Bear Nugz dispensary at 26 Main St. won second, and Five Star Bank at 107 Main St. received third.
Bear Nugz placed second in the barrel category and first in the garden category of the City of Salamanca Flower Contest. Pictured are Carly and Jobe Bucktooth.
Mayor Sandra Magiera said the contest had eight entries this year, a smaller number compared to recent years but encouraging for a different reason.
“Some businesses did do their own and did not enter, which is what we want to help improve the look on Main Street,” the mayor said.
In the flower garden category, Bear Nugz won first place while Mongillo Jewelers at 85 Main St. took second.
The contest also had an honorable mention this year for the Salamanca Area Historical Society and Carol Johnston, Magiera said. She said they did enter but then chose to do their own pots and added bunting.
“We hope next year we have more, and I hope the city can also do more or different flowers. We plan on new barrels, too,” the mayor added. “Thank you to all who participated. Every little bit helps.”
