School districts across New York state held their annual budget votes and board elections on Tuesday, May 20. The following unofficial results were received from some of the districts in Cattaraugus County.
Cattaraugus-Little Valley
Voters approved a $33.19 million budget with a 156-49 tally. A proposition to purchase school buses for no more than $928,000 was OK’d, 163-40, and tax levies to the Cattaraugus Free Library and Memorial Library of Little Valley were also approved, 131-74. Kelli Cullen (151 votes) and Stacey Aguiar (149 votes) were elected to the school board for three-year terms while Cedric Manganiello (138) was elected to a one-year term.
Ellicottville
A $16.31 million budget was approved by Ellicottville voters, 174-14. Approved propositions included to lease two school buses for up to $115,000, 175-12; to levy taxes for the Ellicottville library, 161-26; and to undergo a capital project for $2.38 million, 170-15. In a race for two open Board of Education seats, Karl Northrup (166) and David Scott “Scotty” McGee (117) were elected.
Gowanda
Gowanda district officials reported the $39.04 million budget passed with 77% approval, school bus purchases for up to $77,695.05 were authorized with 83% approval, funding of a repair reserve fund received 82% approval and the library budget saw 82% approval. Vote totals were not reported. Brittney Olszewski (220 votes) and John Y. Waterman Jr. (214 votes) were each elected to three-year terms on the school board.
Randolph
Voters approved a $22.66 million budget by a 170-28 tally. Also approved were the purchase and financing of vehicles, 172-31, and Randolph library expenditures, 178-24. With three school board seats open, elected were Julie Milliman with 173 votes, Kyle A. Brown with 172 and Daniel Jackson with 171.
Salamanca
A $60.31 million budget was approved by district voters with a 182-21 margin. A proposition to undergo a capital project for $47.99 million, including the purchase of property, also passed, 167-36. Incumbent Kerry John (177 votes) was re-elected to the school board.
