SALAMANCA — Jacob Herrick has been named valedictorian of the Salamanca High School Class of 2025, while Sherry Chen is salutatorian.
Herrick, the son of Greg and Shelley Herrick, will graduate with a 102.679 average, a testament to his academic dedication, leadership and athletic commitment throughout high school.
During his time at school, Herrick took a rigorous course load that included Accounting Principles, Precalculus and AP U.S. History, showcasing his commitment to academic excellence. His hard work paid off with numerous recognitions, including being named Business/Marketing Student of the Month and earning consistent honors on the High Honor Roll.
Beyond the classroom, Herrick was a proud member of the National Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society, reflecting his commitment to scholarship and service. His leadership extended to the court, where he played JV football and served as captain of the varsity basketball team for four years.
Herrick plans to attend St. Bonaventure University this fall, majoring in Physical Education. His goal is to become a physical education teacher within a local school district. He has already been awarded the St. Bonaventure Bonnie Scholarship and the St. Bonaventure WNY Catholic Scholarship.
Herrick’s achievements are a reflection of his discipline, drive and deep-rooted desire to make a positive impact in the world of education and athletics.
Chen, the daughter of Jin Yan Chen and Gui Shan Chen, will graduate with a 101.003 average, an honor that reflects her stellar academic performance, dynamic extracurricular involvement and unwavering ambition.
Sherry’s academic portfolio includes advanced coursework such as AP U.S. History, AP Government, AP Chemistry and English Composition, demonstrating her commitment to a challenging academic path. Her efforts have earned her the Cornell Tradition Fellow Scholarship and the Cornell Grant, prestigious awards for outstanding students.
Set to attend Cornell University as a Marketing major, Chen aspires to launch a business focused on graphic design and branding, marrying her creative talents and entrepreneurial spirit.
Chen’s leadership skills have flourished through her roles as President of both the GSA and DECA Club for two years, where she led initiatives that inspired inclusivity and innovation. She also competed in DECA Regionals and placed first, advancing to the State level.
In addition to her academic and club involvement, Chen was an athlete on the varsity tennis and varsity track and field teams. Her ability to balance athletics, academics and leadership showcases her exceptional time management and dedication.
