MARLTON, N.J., March 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The national Listeria outbreak linked to contaminated nutritional shakes has raised serious concerns after 38 confirmed illnesses, 37 hospitalizations, and 12 deaths. Console & Associates P.C. is investigating claims on behalf of families who lost a loved one or are caring for relatives suffering from severe illness after consuming Lyons ReadyCare Listeria recall and Sysco Imperial shake contamination, which were recalled due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination. These products were distributed to hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other institutional settings, placing elderly individuals, immunocompromised patients, and those already in fragile health at significant risk. Families now grappling with devastating losses or caring for critically ill loved ones deserve answers about how these dangerous products were served to the most vulnerable.

What Are the Symptoms of Listeria Infection?

Consuming contaminated frozen supplemental shakes can cause Listeriosis, a bacterial infection with symptoms appearing from the same day to 10 weeks after exposure. Individuals infected with Listeria monocytogenes may experience:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that Listeria infections in long-term care facilities disproportionately affect individuals over 65, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.

Which Nutritional Shakes Were Contaminated with Listeria?

The following frozen supplemental shakes recall was issued due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination:

    Lyons ReadyCare Frozen Shakes

    Sysco Imperial Frozen Shakes

These recalled products were widely distributed to hospitals, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities, placing high-risk individuals at serious risk of illness or death. Anyone who may have consumed these contaminated nutritional shakes should monitor for Listeria symptoms and seek medical attention if they experience any signs of infection.

Which Facilities and States Were Impacted by the Contaminated Shakes?

The recalled frozen nutritional shakes were distributed nationwide to hospitals, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities, where high-risk individuals rely on these products for essential nutrition. Cases have been confirmed in 21 states, including California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington.

The FDA Listeria investigation 2025 recommends that any institution that purchased or received these recalled shakes dispose of them immediately, sanitize storage areas, and ensure that potentially contaminated surfaces and utensils are cleaned thoroughly.

Why Is the Listeria Outbreak Dangerous?

Listeria infections affect approximately 1,600 people annually in the United States, and due to severe complications, the hospitalization rate is high. The CDC Listeria outbreak update reports that 94% of individuals affected in this outbreak required hospitalization, underscoring the serious risk posed by consuming these contaminated nutritional shakes. Unlike other foodborne bacteria, Listeria monocytogenes can survive in refrigerated conditions, allowing it to spread in storage areas and contaminate additional food products.

Victims of this outbreak were often elderly individuals or hospital patients, many of whom already had weakened immune systems. This high-risk population was unknowingly exposed to Listeria contamination in food products, leading to devastating health consequences.

Can You File a Lawsuit for Listeria Poisoning from Contaminated Nutritional Shakes?

Individuals who developed Listeriosis after consuming Lyons ReadyCare or Sysco Imperial frozen shakes may have grounds to file a lawsuit seeking financial compensation. Victims and their families may be eligible to pursue legal action against the manufacturers and distributors responsible for the Listeria contamination; however, victims should discuss their case with an experienced Listeria nutritional shake lawyer before filing anything in court.

Families affected by this outbreak deserve answers and accountability. The distribution of contaminated nutritional shakes to long-term care facilities and hospitals represents a serious public health failure, endangering individuals who depend on these products for essential nourishment. As more information becomes available, those impacted by this outbreak should be aware of their legal rights to seek justice for what they’ve been through. Console & Associates P.C. is reviewing potential personal injury and wrongful death claims on behalf of victims and their families and will continue to investigate the impact of this outbreak on those who relied on these nutritional shakes for their health and well-being.

The product liability lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C. are dedicated to advocating on behalf of consumers injured by dangerous products. Anyone who is interested in learning more about listeria outbreak lawsuits is encouraged to contact the firm to learn more about their rights by completing the case evaluation form.
