ASHFORD — The New York State Department of Transportation has advised motorists of several safety enhancements being implemented at the intersection of the U.S. Route 219 highway, Peters Road and Miller Road in the town of Ashford.
Oversized stop signs and advanced warning signs are being installed to create an all-stop intersection effective immediately. Overhead flashing red beacons will be installed along all approaches, including the northbound slip lane. Additionally, the 45 mph zone on Route 219 near Peters Road will be extended further south to include the highway’s intersection with Connoisarauley Road.
Motorists should expect periodic, short-term lane closures as work progresses and are advised to use caution when approaching the intersection as traffic adjusts to the new pattern. The enhancements are being implemented as an interim measure in advance of a larger safety enhancement project scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025.
