ALLEGANY — The Salamanca High School Alumni Association held its 70th annual reunion banquet Saturday at the Allegany Engine Company’s community center, where hundreds of alumni and their guests met for drinks, food, music and a good time.
The night included many stories from school days, a moment of silence for deceased classmates, an acknowledgement of the veterans in attendance, an update from the treasurer and the introduction of classes.
Honored this year were the classes of 1959, 1964 and 1969, celebrating their 60th, 55th and 50th anniversaries, respectively. The oldest class represented this year was 1941. The class of 1969 had the most in attendance this year with 24.
As a way to give back to the community, the alumni committee this year decided to donate $200 each to four Salamanca-based organizations: the rail museum, the historical society, the youth center and the library.
As the usual highlight of the evening, former cheerleaders once again picked up pom poms and lead all in attendance in the “Warrior Fight Song.”
