SALAMANCA — Mayor Michael “Smitty” Smith, the Common Council and the Salamanca Department of Public Works have scheduled “cleanup” days in the city. It will require that debris must be on the curb by Monday, May 27 but may not be placed before Wednesday, May 22.
In order for such debris to be collected from a premise, a fee of $35 per household (including per apartment for apartment owners) must be paid to the city. Anyone suspected of paying one fee for multiple households will be excluded from the cleanup.
Items that will be collected include stoves, furniture, mattresses, doors, windows, gas grills (tanks removed), cabinets, televisions, toys, bicycles, empty paint cans, lamps, and clothing. Reasonably-sized yard waste, lumber, books and magazines must be bagged or boxed; a complete tear off of a roof or a complete building will not be accepted.
Items excluded from pickup include animal waste, asbestos, batteries, concrete, any hazardous waste (paints, solvents or any liquids), refuse and garbage, soil, tires, computers, large pipe, complete tear off of a roof or large amounts of building materials.
Residents interested should submit payment with the property address to the city Comptroller, 225 Wildwood Ave., Salamanca, NY by 4 p.m. on May 23. Information can be obtained by calling the comptroller’s office at 945-3890.
