GREAT VALLEY — Robert E. Winship Jr., 73, of Great Valley, died Thursday, March 12, 2026, at home, following a short illness.

Born Feb. 14, 1953, in Salamanca, he was the son of the late Robert Sr. and Lucille Wilson Winship. He was married Aug. 12, 1973, to the former Marcie Blackmon, who survives.

Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving 1971-73. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

After returning home, he found work at the Salamanca DPW and various factories, including the Salamanca Lumber Company.

He was a member of the Olean Seventh Day Adventist Church, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, and small-town farming.

Surviving besides his wife are three children, Chad Winship of Little Valley, Tabitha (Jon) Fisher of Great Valley and Jeremy (Diana) Winship of Colorado; five grandchildren, Alex, Allyson, and Alivia Fisher of Great Valley, and Abrianna and Tyler Winship of Colorado; three sisters, Marylin Brown of Little Valley, Linda Tinsley of Virginia and Perry (Sally) Winship of Little Valley; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Carol Winship, and half-brother, Bobbie George.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Olean Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 620 W. Sullivan St., Olean.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca.
