SALAMANCA — Margaret Snyder, 79, of Salamanca, died Friday (Feb. 20, 2026) at Olean General Hospital, following a long illness.
Born June 16, 1946, in Salamanca, she was the daughter of the late Steven and Margaret Hinman Smuskiewicz. She was married April 20, 1975, to Mr. Harold Snyder, in Salamanca, who survives.
Mrs. Snyder attended Salamanca Central School.
She was employed as a nurse’s assistant at the former Waters of Salamanca, Cattaraugus Community Action, the former Market Basket, Ethan Allen in Salamanca, Bradholm in Salamanca and Anvox in Olean.
Mrs. Snyder was a member of the former St. Patrick’s Church, Our Lady of Peace Parish, and the former Salamanca Ladies of the Moose Lodge 1002.
She enjoyed attending church, doing latch hook, was an avid baker, enjoyed bingo and going to the casino.
Surviving besides her husband are five sons, Steven Snyder of Tupper Lake, Shawn Snyder of Illinois, Charles “Chuck” Snyder and Bernard Snyder of Olean and Chad Snyder of Amherst; two granddaughters, Raelynn Snyder of Lancaster and Jordan Green of Salamanca; and a brother, Mr. Jerome “Smokey” Smuskiewicz.
Friends called Wednesday (Feb. 25, 2026) at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc. Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca, at which time funeral services were held, with Deacon Michael Anderson officiating.
