Marie Wunsch

SALAMANCA — Marie Wunsch, 89, of Salamanca, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 13, 2026, at Olean General Hospital, following a short illness.

Born Oct. 6, 1936, in Olean, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Mary Budaj Chizewick.  She was married Nov. 20, 1954, in the Transfiguration Church, Olean, to the love of her life for the past 71 years, Robert Wunsch, who survives.

She was a graduate of Olean High School, Class of 1953.

Marie had been employed as a dental assistant for over 40 years, working with Dr. Dudley in Olean, Dr. Fedell in Salamanca and Dr. S. Illig in Ellicottville.

She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and loved working outdoors on her flowers and decorating her home for different holidays. She was an avid New York Yankees and Buffalo Sabres fan.

Surviving besides her husband are three daughters, Diane Chamberlain of Kill Buck, Darlene (Ken) Guttmann of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and Denise (Shawn) O’Neil of Great Valley; a son, David Wunsch of New Hampshire; two granddaughters, Madison Wunsch of New Hampshire and Jessica O’Neil of Buffalo; three grandsons, Brandon Wunsch of New Hampshire, Nathan Guttmann and Ryan Guttmann, both of Hamilton; and a great-granddaughter, Essox O’Neil of Buffalo.

Friends called Sunday (Jan. 18, 2026) at the O’Rourke & O’Rourke Inc Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday (Jan. 19, 2026) at Our Lady of Peace Parish, 274 Broad St., Salamanca, with Rev. Charles Johnson as celebrant. Burial would be in Calvary Cemetery.
