Ellicottville Fine Art Show returns this weekend

ELLICOTTVILLE — The Tri-County Arts Council announces the Ellicottville Fine Art Show will take place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 and Sunday, Aug. 31 on the lawn of the historic 1887 Building, 1 Washington St.

This annual outdoor event celebrates the creativity and craftsmanship of regional artists from across Western New York in the heart of Cattaraugus County.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore 15 artist booths featuring a variety of fine art, painting, photography, ceramics, jewelry, fiber arts and leather craftsmanship. Each booth showcases original works by talented artisans from across the Southern Tier and beyond.

“We are proud to bring artists and the community together in a beautiful outdoor setting where visitors can meet the makers and find unique works of art,” said Megan Davis, Tri-County Arts Council Executive Director. “In addition to shopping and meeting the artists, visitors can enjoy Ellicottville’s vibrant village.”

The 1887 Building was the third school building to stand on the Public Square. Constructed in 1887–88, the current building stands on the foundation stones taken from the old county jail that used to be where the current Ellicottville post office is located.

The 1887 Building is a handsome example of Romanesque Revival architecture, the only civic structure in the village built in this style. Visitors tend to be drawn to the building because of its unique style with a rounded archway over the recessed front entrance and the heavy stone detailing around the windows and doorways.

The Ellicottville Fine Art Show is presented by the Tri-County Arts Council, which proudly supports and promotes artists in Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties and throughout the Southern Tier.
