State police: 2 killed in shooting on Seneca Nation territory
PERRYSBURG — Two male members of the Seneca Nation of Indians, one age 18 and the other age 23, were killed in a shooting in the town of Perrysburg late Monday, according to the New York State Police.
The shooting occurred just before midnight off Whites Drive on the Cattaraugus Reservation of the Seneca Nation of Indians, state police reported Tuesday. A third victim was treated for wounds at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo and released.
State police at Collins responded to a report of the shootings just after 11:25 p.m. Monday. They were assisted in the incident by the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Department, the Erie County Sheriff’s Department, the Gowanda police and fire departments and Seneca Nation Marshals.
While there was no suspect in custody as of Tuesday afternoon, state police indicated that there was no active threat to the public. Reports indicate that at least nine shots were fired in the incident and a weapon was recovered.
An investigation of the incident was ongoing press time Tuesday.
