Salamanca High School athletic awards announced at Moving Up Day
The Roger Crandall Warrior Pride Award – honors Mr. Roger Crandall, a coach, physical education teacher and athletic director for over 20 years here at SHS. This “Warrior Pride” Character and Courage Award is presented annually to multi-sport male and female athletes who exhibit the highest degree of character and courage while competing in athletics.

SOCCER: 3 year starter, captain, 2-time 1st team all-star, coaches award for 2025 season.,one of the biggest Salamanca sports supporters. Shows up to support all of our sports and athletes. Warrior pride. Leads by example and demonstrates the Warrior Way in everything she does.
BASKETBALL and CHEERLEADING: True asset to the team and high school as an athlete, heart of a champion award in basketball, student section leader, team captain and cheerleader. Helped lead girls team to first sectional title in more than 15 years. Flew under the radar as a player on the court but was truly the unsung hero of the program and the glue of the team.

SOCCER: Inclusive to every athlete on our team. Incredibly strong and positive leadership skills. Captain. Stayed strong mentally and physically. First to arrive, last to leave, always helpful. Leads by example as a scholar athlete and valedictorian. Cannot picture a student more worthy of the Warrior Pride award.
BASKETBALL: 4 year varsity player, 2 time sectional and regional champion, 3 time league champion, 2 time NYS Final Four participant. exceptional leader, never missed a practice or a game, outstanding attitude, true Warrior in every sense of the word.
BASEBALL: All-WNY baseball team selection. CCAA League All-Star. Leads team in batting average, hits, runs, ERA. WNY senior all-star game selection. Carries himself like an exemplary student-athlete, prioritizing being his best on the field and in the classroom.
The Lou Foy Male Athlete of the Year Award is named after the late Lou Foy, who was a coach of many sports, the athletic director and teacher at Salamanca for many years.

FOOTBALL: Led our team to the state finals and state semi’s the previous year. 1st team All-NYS, Upstate Football Player of the Year (all of WNY), Big 30 All-Star, Class C South Player of the Year, WNY Athletics Most Improved Player, featured by the National Football League for the “way to play” award. Career school record holder for all purpose yards, rushing touchdowns, passing attempts/completions/yards/touchdowns, points scored and overall touchdowns.
BASKETBALL: All-time winningest player in the history of Salamanca basketball. 4 year varsity player who won 3 league championships, 2 sectional championships, 2 state regional championships and made 2 appearances in the NYS Final Four. NYS 10th Team All-Star, CCAA 1st Team All-Star. OTH Big 30 2nd Team All Star. Buffalo News All-WNY 1st Team All-Star. Maddox played multiple positions, was asked to do quite a bit, and evolved as an outstanding leader throughout his 4 year career.

: 48 goals on the season. Team captain. True leader in his time on the varsity lacrosse team. It has been a privilege to watch Maddox shine both on and off the field.
The Anita Oyler Female Athlete of the Year Award is given in honor of Anita Oyler, who was a physical education teacher, one of the first girls’ coaches, and an overall pioneer of girls’ sports at Salamanca school.

CROSS COUNTRY: NYS Qualifier in cross country, third ever athlete in school history to qualify for states in cross country. (There has been 2 other qualifiers in the late 1980’s and then we have not had a team for a very long time.)
TRACK: she has been a team captain 2024. Her work ethic and commitment is stellar. She does a tremendous amount of work outside of practice. She has the will to win and when she is on par, she is a fierce competitor. Indoor Track and field– Most valuable distance 24-25, Sectional Qualifier 24-25, School Record Holder- 1500-3000-3200 Relay-1600 Relay. Outdoor Track and field– Most valuable distance 24-25, CCAA Overall Champion (2025)- 3000 Meters, Super 8 Champion 2025 Steeplechase, CCAA All-Star Team 23-24-25, Sectional Qualifier 23-24-25, School Record Holder-2000 SteepleChase, Top 10-1500-3000-800.
