NBC’s nature docu-series ‘The Americas’ has amazed me every Sunday, highlighting the little-known details about creatures and ecosystems across North and South America. Narrated by Tom Hanks, the 10-episode TV show is an awe-inspiring journey with beautiful photography and a score to match.
‘The Americas’ is described as a docu-series meant to highlight the wonders, secrets and fragilities of the world’s greatest supercontinent. Using cutting-edge technology, the show uncovers never-before-seen behavior of animals, insects, reptiles and other creatures as it highlights extraordinary, untold wildlife stories.
Sometimes, I can’t believe what I’m seeing and hearing as I watch the show. I’m fascinated because I’m a nature lover. One episode featured honeypot ants whose workers are called repletes. These specialized ants hang in the nest and have an expandable abdomen that they use to store nectar and water, which they regurgitate to feed the colony during times of scarcity.
This groundbreaking series was five years in the making and was filmed in over 180 expeditions revealing the spectacular landscapes of Earth’s only landmass to stretch between both poles. If you miss the show on Sundays on NBC, you can see it the following day on Peacock. There are still four more episodes left.
