SALAMANCA — The Ellicottville and Salamanca area Christmas Cantata Choir has begun rehearsals for this year’s production that will take place Sunday, Dec. 15.
The Riverside Chapel production will be at 3 p.m. in Salamanca and the Ellicottville performance at 7 o’clock in Holy Name of Mary Church, 22 Jefferson St.
The chosen cantata for this year is “A Blest Messiah Born: The Christmas Story Through Timeless Carols,” arranged by Larry Shackley.
When the choir performed this cantata in 2012, “The Friendly Beasts” was sung by a children’s choir and was a big hit. Contact director Annette Ieda if you have a talented child who would enjoy being in this ensemble.
Rehearsals for the adult group run 1:15–3 p.m. each Sunday until Dec. 8, starting at the Riverside Chapel on Oct. 20 and alternating each week between Salamanca and The First Church of Ellicottville on Elizabeth Street. Those who enjoy singing and are interested in joining the choir should call or text Ieda at (716) 912-3512 for more information.
This is a volunteer group that gathers annually to enrich the Christmas season by presenting the story of Jesus’s birth through song and narration. The concerts are free and open to all, and refreshments follow each presentation.
