Ellicottville 3, Springville 1ELLICOTTVILLE — Ellicottville grabbed a 27-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-21 win over Springville on Sept. 23.
Natalee Leiper led the Eagles (5-4) with 22 digs and 19 kills. Ande Northrup helped with 26 assists, Riley Whitmer had eight kills and a block, Faith Burlingame recorded 13 digs, Hayden Andera picked up three kills and a block and Keira Baldwin finished with two assists and a block.
“Tonight was our annual fundraiser volleyball game,” Ellicottville coach Katie Auge said. “It was truly an amazing night. With donations, a 50/50, and a bake sale we were able to raise a total of $1,270 to donate to Alex’s Lemonade Stand. A giant thank you to all of the volleyball players, families, and community members that all came together to make this night possible.”
Randolph 3, Salamanca 0SALAMANCA — Salamanca fell on scores of 25-13, 25-4 and 25-11 on Sept. 19.
Hadleigh Krug led the Warriors on defense with six digs. Other contributors included Skyla Dowdy, Joey Jimerson, Marlee Cook and Thia Chudy with two digs each; Kenzie Crouse with a kill and a block; and Ayla Newark with a kill and added two aces.
Silver Creek 3, Ellicottville 1ELLICOTTVILLE — Ellicottville won the first set but couldn’t take the next three, falling 14-25, 25-18, 25-23, 27-25 on Sept. 19.
Leading Silver Creek, Gracie Williams had 17 kills, Josie Daniels had 16 digs and Maddison Blair added four blocks.
For Ellicottville, Riley Whitmer marked nine kills and three blocks while Natalee Leiper added seven kills, six aces and 12 digs. Ande Northrup tallied 20 assists, 17 digs and four aces and Faith Burlingame contributed 18 digs.
WEST VALLEY — After having occupied four of the top eight spots on the leaderboard, Falconer secured victory in the boys Meet at West Valley on Sept. 17 with 31 points.
West Valley finished second as a team with 46 points and were led by Jack Tharnish (18:37) and Noah Klahn (19:41), who finished first and second as individuals respectively.
Cattaraugus-Little Valley and Randolph both posted incomplete team scores. For the Timberwolves, Alexander Pietras was the top finisher with his time of 22:33 good for ninth-place. Rhys Kelly led the Cardinals with his sixth-place finish and 21:39 time.
For the girls, Southwestern took the top spot as a team with 21 points. Emma Lewis’ time of 20:29 also gave her first-place as an individual.
Randolph, West Valley and Cattaraugus-Little Valley each had incomplete scores.
However, individually, Gracyn Rowland was the top finisher for the Cardinals with her time of 24:46 good for third-place, Olivia Harmony’s time of 22:46 gave her a second-place finish for West Valley and CLV’s Dannielle Snyder finished 17th with a time of 33:28.
Salamanca 53, Pioneer 48YORKSHIRE — Double-winner Mikaela Tennity led Salamanca again on Sept. 19, winning the 200-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly, the latter a personal record time.
Also for the Warriors, Gabriella Bly won the diving and Kynleigh Wass hit a PR while winning the 100 freestyle.
Leading Pioneer were double-winners Emma Inthavong (200 IM, 100 breaststroke) and Madison Giboo (50 freestyle, 500 freestyle).
“This season has been so rewarding with these girls finally finding this team’s success,” SHS coach Laurie Lafferty John said. “We knew a few years ago we had some great talent but we were young and now they are all blossoming and making it happen. And now our numbers are growing and we are thrilled with some of the new rookies we have. It’s a strong group. We definitely have some great competition ahead of us and will continue to gain our confidence as we work hard for PRs, Top 10’s and sectional qualifications as we soon will hit our mid-season.”
Frewsburg 4, Salamanca 1FREWSBURG — Despite Emily Benjamin picking up her first win of the season in second-singles, Salamanca (1-4) fell on Sept. 18.
The Warriors’ second-doubles pairing of Betsy Leyva and Sage Huff kept it close with their opposition, but narrowly fell in a tiebreaker.
