You can never have just one cat, or so some of my family members have preached my entire life. After about a year and nine months with our shorthaired calico Jolene as the one and only cat, my partner and I decided maybe it was time we adopt another cat.
Enter a medium-to-long-haired calico who is just shy of a year old, has a short back leg that makes her walk just a little awkward, loves cuddling so much to the point of drooling and has no chill when it comes to playing with toys, hands or feet under the bed covers.
A long proponent of giving pets actual people names as opposed to “Fluffy” or “Spot,” we kept our music-related theme going by naming the new cat Priscilla, partially from Elvis Presley’s wife and partially from the Australian musical road comedy “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.”
We immediately began calling her Silly for short, and that name is perfect. She and Jolene warmed up to each other pretty quickly, and although Jo is still not quite as playful or crazy as Silly, I think their sister-sister relationship is going to be pretty strong in the coming years.
