GREAT VALLEY — The Great Valley Town Board held its regular monthly meeting Monday, which included several new items and updates of what’s happening in the town.
First, the board approved posting for town lawn mowing bids for 2021. As it was done for 2020, Town Supervisor Dan Brown suggested all the town properties be bid together rather separately as had been done before.
“I think it’s fine as one bid,” he said. “Kill Buck, town hall, memorial park and the cemeteries.”
The board also approved posting bids for mowing at Bonnie Way East, which Brown suggested be separate from the rest. He said it would be for a minimum six times over the spring and summer.
The town budget recently got its tax money in, so Brown said he, Town Clerk Toni Evans and Highway Superintendent Jack Harrington will talk with the town’s accountants to figure out some long-term investments. He said Harrington is looking into when the town plans on paving so they know what funds they’ll have available.
On Wednesday, a planning board meeting was expected to hold a public hearing where representatives from internet provider Armstrong would be present to discuss a concrete prefabricated building at the Southern Tier West headquarters that will be a hub for the statewide internet coming to rural communities.
“All wire, all on the pole. There won’t be any towers or anything like that,” Brown said. “It’s part of the rural New York deal. Armstrong was the winning bid on it.”
Councilwoman Becky Kruszynski updated the board on the changes to the town website. She said it’s not done yet, but more updates will be made soon.
“We did add some forms from the county. We added the tax exemption for seniors and added a hyperlink to the state for COVID information,” she said. “We tried to pick and choose which ones are pertinent.”
A visitor counter was added to the homepage so the town can know how many people are going to the website for information. As of Tuesday morning, it had 325 visitors.
“By the next meeting it will be all done,” Kruszynski added.
Councilwoman Sandra Goode gave an update on the GObike Buffalo project to put a trail through Cattaraugus County. She said she emailed the organizers to express the town’s displeasure with the route picked for the bike path in the town.
“They called me and said they would be more than happy to come put on a presentation for the town board and show us some diagrams and pictures of how that has worked in other areas, running it along and separating it traffic,” she said. “That’s probably the best thing to do so that everybody can see it and maybe throw questions out.”
The board also made a note that the Great Valley Volunteer Fire Company’s annual regatta has been canceled for 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
