The Ellicottville boys soccer team’s leading scorer, Bryce Butler, earned the top honor in CCAA East postseason awards announced last week, winning player of the year.
A senior midfielder, Butler scored 12 goals, the most among the league’s five teams, and made nine assists this season. In addition to player of the year, Butler was the league’s Offensive MVP. ECS classmate Noah Steinbroner was the Defensive MVP and both made the first-team all-stars.
League champion Portville had six first-team all-stars: forward Michael Cole, midfielders Kyle Mathes and Nathan Petryszak, defenders Todd Stone and Thomas Carls and goalkeeper. Salamanca/Cattaraugus-Little Valley’s Neland Cummings made the first team at forward. Midfielder Bryson Rozler and defender Ethan Shields made the first team from Randolph.
Also for Ellicottville, midfielders Clayton Rowland and Justin Imhoff, defenders Caleb Jennings and Wyatt Chudy and goalkeeper Jamison Caldwell made the second-team all-stars. Forward Mitchell Azcarate and midfielder Sam Edwards were honorable mentions.
Randolph midfielder Ashton Bushey, defenders Clayton Crouse and Ben Hitchcock and goalkeeper Kyle Smallback were honorable mentions. Salamanca/CLV had four honorable mentions: midfielders Reece Redeye-Desposito and Joe Quigley and defenders Hunter Yaworsky and Lucas Barber.
Portville’s J.J McIntosh was named coach of the year, Ryan Arvin won referee of the year and Pine Valley/Gowanda was the team sportsmanship award winner with representative Brendan Butcher.
