LITTLE VALLEY — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to pay special attention to a phone scam in the county.
In recent days, the sheriff’s office has been receiving calls from area residents who have been contacted by an unknown person claiming to be a grandchild or child in trouble with police and needing money in order to be bailed out of jail.
The person, in some cases, has been an impostor claiming to be the family member speaking to the elderly explaining the situation and asking for the money to help them out of their troubles.
The sheriff’s office is warning the public that this is a phone scam and to not give any personal information to anyone over the phone.
