ALLEGANY STATE PARK — The next meeting of the Allegany State Park Historical Society is set for Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. at the “Camp Allegany” Class Room Building in the Red House area.
Guest presenter will be Rick Rupprecht, doing a full presentation on the lifestyles, nesting and history of bald eagles.
Rupprecht grew up hunting and fishing in north-central Pennsylvania and now lives in Ashville, N.Y. He was a mathematics teacher at Jamestown Community College for his professional career. His love of the outdoors eventually led him to volunteer at the Audubon Community Nature Center in Jamestown.
Rupprecht enjoys leading people of all ages, especially children, on nature walks, and a “behind the scenes” tour of the eagle at the Audubon. He also does talks on the Making Maple Syrup and on the Pennsylvania Timber Rattlesnake.
He serves on the Board of Directors and is the treasurer for the Jamestown Skeet Club, the Lucile M Wright Air Museum, and AMBUCS, a group that provides adaptive tricycles to people with disabilities. He also volunteers at his church and enjoys skeet shooting.
In 2018, Rupprecht was presented the Volunteer Leader of the Year Award, by the Chautauqua Leadership Network in recognition of all of the volunteer work he does.
