What’s that big green box located in Grove City Medical Center’s lobby, you ask? It’s our new drug disposal receptacle, installed recently as part of our efforts to address the opioid crisis here in our community.
By removing medications from the home once they are no longer needed, the risk of opioid abuse is greatly decreased. National Drug Take-Back Days, which are held just two times each year, simply aren’t enough to address the problem. Director of Pharmacy Services Sara Kauffman, RPh, advocated for the drug disposal bin based on her experience with people from our community who often brought their unused medications to her in hopes of leaving them at the hospital for proper disposal.
“I couldn’t be happier that we now offer an easily accessible option for these folks,” Kauffman says. “This is a very important service to our community.”
