Salamanca High School freshman Jarrett Pond carded a season-best 42 in a win for the Warriors’ boys golf team on May 11.

Pond helped the Warriors (5-14, 4-8) beat Franklinville, 34-21, with his seven-over-par 9-hole score.
He followed up the impressive performance by being one of three Warriors golfers to qualify for the Section 6 championships on Monday, along with Braden Siebert and Brandon Milanowski, in the CCAA Div. 3 sectional qualifier.
Adjaza Brown
Senior, Softball
Salamanca’s Adjaza Brown, one of six seniors on the Warriors’ softball team (2-10), helped her team earn its first victory of the season on May 8 at Randolph, then followed it up with another win May 10 at Allegany-Limestone.
Brown had 10 strikeouts pitching against the Cardinals in a 5-4 win, and combined with Emma Fiske for 10 total strikeouts in a 13-10 eighth-inning win over A-L. Against the Gators, she had two doubles including two RBI in the seventh inning.
Ryleigh John
Freshman, Girls Track and Field
On Thursday, as the Salamanca girls track and field team earned its first dual meet victory, freshman Ryleigh John ran two season-best times to help down Gowanda.
John clocked in with a 2:49 in the 800-meter run and a 4:59.3 in the 1,500, winning both events in an 87-53 victory.
The Warriors track teams turn to hosting the Super 8 Meet on Friday (4:30 p.m.), then go to the CCAA Pentathlon/Steeplechase Saturday in Olean before visiting Allegany-Limestone Tuesday for a rescheduled meet.
