SALAMANCA — Members of the Southern Tier West Regional Planning and Development Board heard presentations Thursday for 11 projects seeking funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).
The projects, which were preliminarily ranked by the board, are seeking just over $1 million in ARC funding this year. Total projects costs are $2.3 million.
Receiving the top preliminary ranking was a Jamestown Community College project “Answering the Need for Nurses,” which JCC is seeking $90,400 from ARC. The project’s total budget is $180,913. It involves JCC facilities in Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties.
Also placing high was a $150,000 request from the Salamanca Board of Public Utilities toward a $300,000 ultraviolet disinfection system for its wastewater treatment plant. The plant is under a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency order to reduce chlorine discharge levels. The ultraviolet system will disinfect without chemicals.
An application from the Cattaraugus County Council on Addiction and Recovery Services (CAReS) to expand medication assisted treatment was ranked third. CAReS is seeking $124,978 in ARC funding. The total project cost is $275,000.
OTHER PROJECTS in order of their ranking include:
Richard Zink, Southern Tier West director, said all the groups that made presentations will be asked to submit a full application, which is due in September.
With up to $1 million in ARC funds available through the New York State Department of State, there is a chance most of the projects could receive the ARC funding they ask for.
