SALAMANCA — The record is beyond glittering … and Tuesday afternoon it became a milestone.
Olean High tennis coach Ben Wright, in his seventh season, hit the century victory mark with a 5-0 triumph over Salamanca.
The win makes the Olean General Hospital operating room coordinator, 100-4 over his career.
That’s a .961 winning percentage and those four defeats came by 3-2 margins: twice to Jamestown in his first year, once to Southwestern in season four and to Fillmore this campaign.
“That record is a reflection of the quality kids I’ve been privileged to have,” said Wright, who served as a volunteer assistant to his predecessor Greg Jackson, now a teacher and tennis coach at Jamestown.
The Huskies went 15-1 this season, 11-0 in the league and No. 1 singles player, Logan Bross, went 16-0. Cross is one of two seniors on the team, the other is Ryan Brown.
“All the praise goes to the players,” Wright emphasized, “it’s easy to succeed when you have kids of that quality.”
Salamanca (3-8) did not win a set and had to forfeit third singles being short one player.
