SALAMANCA — The National Weather Service this morning issued a flood warning for the Allegheny River at both Salamanca and Olean as temperatures climb to unseasonably mild levels today.
The flood warning is in effect from this morning to Friday afternoon for the river at Salamanca, where the water level measured 4.9 feet and rising at 5 a.m. this morning. According to data provided by the U.S. Geological Survey, the water level of the Allegheny in Salamanca measured 6.03 feet at 8:45 a.m.
Flood stage for the Allegheny River in Salamanca is 12 feet, and the National Weather Service predicts the river to rise above flood stage early this evening and crest near 12.4 feet tonight.
The flood warning comes following heavy rainfall overnight across the region and continuing during the early morning hours. Additional moderate to heavy rainfall is expected throughout the day.
According to the National Weather Service, a cold front is expected to push through the region later today could is expected to reduce the rainfall intensity.
