The 75-year old story of a nearly
forgotten murder in Cattaraugus County has finally been told by
co-authors Cheri Mancuso and John Scarano in their Coldspring book
series. The second book, Coldspring: The Trial, is based on actual
events and eyewitness accounts of people that remember and
experienced the time when the Coldspring area was the scene of a
gruesome murder.
The crime brought on the largest manhunt, in its time, in New York
State history in March of 1935. Alfred “Freddy” Lindsay was
ultimately captured and returned to Cattaraugus County to stand
trial for the axe-murder of Bernice Kenyon Farnsworth.
