BUFFALO — For the second time in a week, the Buffalo Bandits could not keep up with their defending National Lacrosse League champion rivals.
The Rochester Knighthawks scored the final six goals in a dominant finish to beat Buffalo, 15-10, Saturday.
Mark Steenhuis scored a hat trick, with his third goal giving Buffalo a 10-9 lead 7:19 into the third quarter. The 14-year veteran and Bandit since 2002 earned his 800th career point on his second goal. He’s second only to teammate John Tavares on the Bandits’ all-time points list.
“They’re the kind of things that when the yearbook comes out, guys start talking and then you start hearing about those kinds of numbers,” Steenhuis said, according to Bandits.com. “I didn’t even know I was close to be honest, and when it shot up on the boards and the fans gave me that reaction, it was definitely touching, definitely a special moment. They made it one that I’ll definitely remember for the rest of my life.”
Also for Buffalo, Kevin Brownell and Ryan Benesch had two goals each. Craig Point paced the Knighthawks with four goals and an assist.
The season series concludes Saturday, Feb. 21, at Rochester for a 7:30 p.m. start.
