SALAMANCA — The Salamanca Public Housing Agency (PHA) is looking for eligible people to participate in the Section 8 Rental Assistance program in the city of Salamanca.

The Salamanca PHA administers the Housing Choice Voucher Program (CVP), which is funded by the federal government to assist very low-income families, the elderly and the disabled to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private market.

Participants are able to find their own housing, including a single-family home, duplexes and apartments within the city limits.

The city PHA’s Housing CVP is currently looking for eligible participants to apply for rental assistance in Salamanca. Eligibility is by income and family size.

The Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) is paid directly to the landlord by the PHA on behalf of the participating family. The HAP portion is calculated on the participant’s total household income. Dependents, allowances and some expenses could also be used to determine the HAP.

Salamanca PHA has adopted the following local preferences:

If the PHA determines that your eligible, your name will be placed on a waiting list. When your name is reached on the waiting list, the PHA will contact you and issue you a voucher. The voucher will give you 60 days to lease a place to rent within the Salamanca city limits on the Section 8 program.

Once you have found a place to rent a Housing Quality Standards, inspection will be completed to ensure that the unit is decent, safe and sanitary. The unit must pass this inspection to participate in the program.

When a family selects a housing unit, and the PHA approves the unit and lease, the family signs a lease with the landlord for at least one year. The tenant may be required to pay a security deposit to the landlord.
