Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, Veterans Day ceremonies took place on Wildwood Avenue in Salamanca in front of the Hughes-Skiba American Legion Post and the John F. Ahrens VFW. Under the direction of music teacher, Mona Lungershausen, 6th through 9th graders played the National Anthem. In addition to traditional addresses, two new flagpoles were dedicated in front of the VFW. Showing in his carefully preserved uniform from military service in Vietnam is VFW Commander Danny Williams. Among his many decorations are a Service Commendation and the Purple Heart he received having been shot five different times by machine gun fire.
